Finding my voice….

3 years ago I made the decision that I wanted to become a full time artist. I took the Milan Art Online Mastery Program and I’m in the process of creating my portfolio. It’s a journey of experimentation and creating various kinds of paintings to discover my voice. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Before moving to Canada I was fortunate enough to be a part of a performing arts institute in Dubai – The Gaia Center for several years as a student and a trainer. The environment at Gaia nurtured my curiosity for creativity and for living a creative life. Although I’m not a full-time artist yet, I’m working towards it. With consistency and discipline I hope to get there.

I’m inspired to paint nature, animals and women. I create art based on symbols. Most of the time I paint what I’m drawn to and later understand the symbolism behind it. I want my paintings to be open ended and so can mean different things to different people.

My process involves creating a source based on an inner need to paint the subject. I create a sketch of it and use my imagination in it too. This helps me get into my right brain. I incorporate fun, experimental mixed media techniques which I combine with the old masters’ techniques. Once I begin painting I try to stay in the moment and focus solely on the paint, my paintbrush and the canvas. I lose track of time and space and that’s the best feeling.

I feel extremely fortunate to be an artist in this day and age with art supplies that have evolved so much, with several avenues to be inspired and to inspire, and with art communities that are ever growing.

While creating my portfolio I stay open to any inspiration that comes my way that might alter my process. With practice and hours behind the paintbrush I see my style and voice evolving. I let faith and the pixie dust at the end of my paint brush lead the way.
